Oma

  • April 22, 2011

I recently did a custom order for someone who was ordering a gift. She had a direction in mind and we worked together to pick the perfect colors for the special someone. When it came to choosing a name, and her real name was already a current colorway of mine, I recommended we use the name that her grandson calls her, Oma. It’s a traditional Dutch and German name. It speaks to tradition, comfort and respect. I hope that it lives up to it’s namesake, a very special and very loved Oma.

I love living in New York. Some of my closest friends are here and I’m amazed at how easily we found deep, meaningful relationships considering we live in a rural area, not one for seeing your neighbors and such.

I have a great friend, Danielle, that has been in our lives for about 4 years. It’s actually a family friendship, one where our kids are friends, we are friends and our husbands are friends. She’s an amazing person and I learn a lot from her. She opened my eyes to the world of sign language and homeschooling and she rejuvenated my love of photography. Did I mention she’s a photographer? She’s got a great perspective and an almost photo-journalistic touch to her work.

More than any of that though, she’s an idea gal. She amazes me for all the ideas she can come up with and I sit in awe when she starts brainstorming new things and how her mind can jump from one idea to another without losing her thought or direction. She recently came to me with a great collaborative idea for our businesses. She shoots a lot of new moms and babies. I make super cuddly baby gifts. Why not put the two together?

What came out of it is a fun, funky exclusive colorway for her to use on Bitty Bu and other Bu gifts for her clients. The colorway is all her too, it’s fun, full of depth and lots of range. It’s traditional colors with a contemporary twist.
It’s a celebration of my friend.

Water, water everywhere…

  • April 14, 2011

It’s spring. Right? It feels a bit like winter around here still. Apart from one 80° day, it’s been downright cold. And rainy.

I’m boycotting the weather and channeling the spring in my colorways. This one is all about water and our desire to go swimming. My kids love to swim, we adore the water and can’t wait until it’s warm enough to go to the pool and beach.

This will have to do in the meantime.

Happy Birthday Bu Contest!

  • April 1, 2011

Today is April Fools Day, but this is no joke. It’s also the Bu Birthday. Three years ago today we opened our doors and began snuggling everyone up in luxuriously soft, beautiful goodies. It’s been an amazing adventure and we are very thankful for all the support and passion that our customers have given us.

As a special thank you for three great years, we are giving away three great things, some of the most popular Tickety Bu products—one Cuddle Blanket, one Hooded Towel and one Mezzo Bu!

As you all know, this year is all about colorways and we’ve unveiled a new colorway each week of the year so far. It’s time to get everyone involved in the fun. To enter to win one of the 3 great prizes, all you need to do is comment on this thread with a brand new colorway idea. Become a fan on Facebook, post here that you are, and you’ll get another chance to win. Enter as many new colorways as you like for more chances to win. There will be one winner randomly drawn for each item given away and that item will be dyed in the winning colorway you submitted. Be sure to check out the colorway gallery for inspiration or to see what’s already been done.

Rules:
Only posts here on the Bu Blog will be considered as entries, posts on the facebook fan page will not count as entries. Be specific with your colors, for example, “navy blue” is much more specific than just “blue”. Don’t add more than 5 colors to a colorway please. Have fun and tell your friends!

Winners will be drawn at random on April 15th and announced April 18th, here on the Bu Blog. No purchase necessary. Prize values: Cuddle Blanket $39, Hooded Towel, $47 and Mezzo Bu $85.

Welcome To The New Bu!

  • March 25, 2011

This day has been a long time coming. Over a year in the works, with a ton of time and energy spent over the last 2 months, the new Bu is finally here.

Our new site has shopping, the Bu Blog, the colorway gallery and all other things Bu, wrapped into one easy to use package. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Tara Sroka Designs and John Sroka Technical Services, the creators of the new look and all the great functionality here. They really made this come to life.

So, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do, and again, welcome to the new Bu!

Candy

  • March 25, 2011

Ah, something girly.

I was recently asked to do a girly colorway with pink and purple. What a thought! I realized I had never done a simple colorway with the most girly colors of all. And you can’t get much more girly than pink and purple.

This has a bright bubblegum pink with true purple, giving hints of fushia and lavender as well. It’s like candy and good enough to eat.

Ice Ice Baby

  • March 24, 2011

Earlier this year I was in love with blue. I’m falling out of love.

I’m tire of blue. So very tired. So, this was my snarky way of getting back my blue mojo. I wanted to do something cool and calming, like ice cubes in a glass. I love how they reflect the light and capture deep shadows and brilliant highlights.

I added the funny title as my way of taking a jab at blue. But, all kidding aside, this might just make me love blue again.

Grape Crush

  • March 24, 2011

I am addicted to green tea soda. My favorite flavors are black cherry and tangerine. I adore them and have at least one a day. Thank goodness they are caffeine and calorie free so I don’t feel too gluttonous.

It kind of takes me back to my child hood. It reminds me of how I felt drinking Grape Crush. I adored that drink. I’m sure I would find it properly repulsive if I drank it now, but my memory about it, like most memories, has painted it with shiny, happy colors.

So this is my tribute to the past, shiny happy times with grape soda.

Reflecting Pool

  • March 13, 2011

Water is mystical. Whether it be the bathtub, a sprinkler, a lake or the ocean, water has the magical power of engaging our imagination like nothing else.

My kids and I love to look into puddles and creeks when we take our walks and see how our reflection changes with the ripples of the water. We imagine what might be in the water, and talk about the possibilities. Mermaids, sprites, talking fish, and frogs that become princes are just some of the many things we’ve dreamed of. I love the water and am so glad that my kids share the wonder with me.

This colorway celebrates the things our imagination can dream up just by seeing a glimpse at our reflection.
